Common Questions

Do I need a referral to see you?

No referral is needed to make an appointment. However, if you'd like to access a Medicare rebate, you'll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP first. If you're not sure whether that's right for you, we can talk it through on your free introductory call.

I'm not sure I have a 'real' problem. Is that okay?

Completely. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to reach out. Most of the women I work with are functioning well on the outside — they're just carrying more than they should have to, and something finally made them stop and ask for support. That's enough.

What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help?

That's actually one of the most common things I hear. If previous experiences left you feeling like something was missed, or like you were being fitted into a framework that didn't quite suit you, that's exactly what this practice is designed to be different from. The introductory call is a good place to talk about what hasn't worked before.

How does telehealth actually work?

Sessions happen via a secure video platform — I'll send you a link before your appointment. All you need is a device with a camera and a reasonably quiet space where you feel comfortable talking. Most people find it surprisingly easy after the first session, and many prefer it. No travel, no waiting room, no having to compose yourself in a carpark afterwards.

Is telehealth as good as face to face?

For most people, yes — and the research broadly supports this. What matters most is the quality of the relationship and the work, not the medium. That said, if you have strong feelings about wanting to meet in person, mention it on your introductory call and we can talk through options.

How long will I need to come?

That depends entirely on you and what you're navigating. Some people need a handful of sessions to get their bearings and feel equipped to move forward. Others value ongoing regular support over a longer period. We won't lock you into anything — we'll check in regularly about what's working and what you actually need.

What if we're not the right fit?

It's important that you feel comfortable and understood. If after a session or two it doesn't feel right, I'd rather you tell me than quietly disengage. I'm happy to help you find someone who might suit you better — there's no awkwardness in that conversation.

How do I get started?

The first step is a free 15-minute introductory call — just a relaxed conversation to see if we're a good fit before you commit to anything. You can reach me by phone, email, or through the contact form. I'll get back to you within one business day.
